Join me

Join me in celebrating my birthday! This year, I’ll doing my first travel party in the beautiful Krabi province of Thailand. This is the best time of year to visit, when we can expect a pleasant climate, warm waters, and "dry northeasterly winds, delivering blue skies and starry nights".

The tentative plan is to stay from Wednesday, 1 March to Sunday, 5 March.

My birthday is on 2 March, by the way. :)

If you’re in, let me know ASAP so we can make arrangements together early.

I’ll update this page as we figure out the details. :)

Who's in so far?
Victor, Maggie, Jesse, Selena, Xiaolu(?)

Destinations

We’re going to Krabi province in southern Thailand!

Specifically, my idea is to stay at and explore the island of Koh Lanta, which is beautiful but not as touristy and commercialized as other areas such as Ao Nang. It’s the right place for diving, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying nature. See a picture!

Since we’ll be in Thailand for 5 days, we can also take day trips to Koh Phi Phi. More populated and popular than Koh Lanta, there’s lots of entertainment (and crowds) here. See a picture!

Another island to visit is Rai Leh, known for towering limestone karsts and excellent rock climbing. See a picture!

Agenda (tentative)

Departure
Shanghai Airlines 865: PVG to KBV
Take-off: 28 Feb, 18:40
Landing: 28 Feb, 23:10

1 night in Krabi Town
Since we arrive late, we’ll probably stay in Krabi Town the first night. Then we can take a bus to Koh Lanta.

4 nights in Koh Lanta
Here's we'll make our home base. Plenty to do here, and day trips to other islands are easy enough.

Return
Shanghai Airlines 866: KBV to PVG
Take-off: 6 Mar, 00:10
Landing: 6 Mar, 06:40

This is 5 full days – and there’s plenty to do during those days! Of course, we’ll have plenty of downtime as well. Gotta enjoy the beaches and good weather. :)

Activities

Some of the things we can enjoy:

Travel requirements

Visa

For US, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Germany, Brazil passport holders, no visa is required.

For China passport holders, you can get a visa on arrival (200-400 RMB fee).

Basically, there shouldn’ be any issue with visas.

Recommended vaccinations

Routine vaccinations, plus:
- Hepatitis A
- Typhoid

For more health information, see this CDC travel page for Thailand

Other requirements

I think for travelers from Brazil, there may be an additional requirement for health documentation, related to Yellow Fever or something like that… To be confirmed!
